Vitamin D

This test may be right for you if any of the following are true:

  • You are curious about your vitamin D level

  • You have risk factors for a vitamin D deficiency such as:

    • Being older than 50 years

    • Having darker skin (darker skin absorbs less sunlight)

    • Having limited sun exposure

    • Being overweight

    • Living a vegan lifestyle or have a diet low in vitamin D-rich foods

  • You have been diagnosed with a chronic vitamin D related condition, such as Crohn disease, celiac disease, kidney disease, or liver disease, and want to monitor your results

  • You are exhibiting signs or symptoms of a vitamin D related condition (see Signs & symptoms section below)

This test measures the amount of 25-hydroxyvitamin D, an indicator for the level of vitamin D in your body. Vitamin D is involved in regulating calcium and phosphorus, which are essential nutrients to promote bone strength and cellular health. Vitamin D can also help the immune system fight infections. Your body produces vitamin D after exposure to sunlight or from consuming certain foods and supplements.
