Thyroid Function Test (TSH)
This thyroid TSH test measures the level of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) in your blood that can help determine if your thyroid is functioning properly and identify signs of hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. If results are abnormal, a reflex test for free T4 will be performed at no additional cost to help identify a possible thyroid disorder.
This test is commonly used as a starting point in evaluating thyroid function. Noticeable changes in your metabolism (eg, weight, temperature, and energy) may be an indication of abnormal levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) in your blood.
This thyroid function test may be right for you if any of the following are true:
You have a risk factor of thyroid disease:
Family history
Older age (over 50)
Female
Recent pregnancy
History of thyroid surgery
Radiation treatment for past thyroid
Taking medication high in iodine
Diagnosed with an autoimmune disease
You are experiencing signs or symptoms of thyroid disease (see Signs & symptoms section below)
Please note: Pregnancy and medications like steroids will affect your results.
